The share of Krasnodar Region in the all-Russia total regional product (TRP) in 2003 was 272.6 billion RUR or in actual prices by 16.3% over that in 2002.
TRP dynamics in 2000-2003
Positive TRP dynamics has been caused by the growth of amounts of production and services in main branches of economy. The greatest share in TRP structure is occupied by transport and communications - 20%, and agriculture and forestry - 14,9%.
INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION BY MAIN BRANCHES
Main branches of industrial production are represented by 536 large and medium size enterprises, and by 3.7 thousand small business enterprises. Leading branches of industry are food, power generation, fuel, machine building and metal working, building materials industry. Their total share in the amount of industrial production is over 80%.
Food industry
The leading place in the structure of industrial output belongs to the food industry providing 45% of the output.
The branch includes 16 sugar refineries, 10 enterprises of canned fruit and 7 enterprises of canned fish production, 42 dairy and 23 meat processing complexes, 7 oil and fat plants, 2 tea producing and 2 tobacco producing factories, 48 specialized viticulture enterprises, 11 wineries, 4 alcohol producing plants and 25 bakery complexes.
The Region produces over one-third (of Russian amount) of sugar (2 mln t); 6% of hard cheese and preserved dairy products, oil (367 thousand t or 24%) and canned fruit (416 mln cans or 9%).
Wine material of the branch comprises 10 mln DAL annually (including 2.5 mln DAL of sparkling wine). The unique product in the Russian market is the classic matured sparkling wine «Abrau Durso» produced by the plant «Abrau Durso» (in Novorossisk district). The Region produces over 120 brands of vodka and liqueur-vodka brands.
The largest enterprises of the branch are: JSC «Oil and Fat Complex Krasnodarsky», JSC «Armavirsky Oil and Fat Complex», JSC «Abrau Durso», JSC «Meat Processing Complex Krasnodarsky», JSC «Krasnodarsky Fish Processing Plant», Municipal Unified Enterprise «Krasnodar Ptitsa», JSC «Anit LTD», Branch 31 of «Moscow Beer-Soft Drinks Complex Ochakovo».
Power generation
The share of power generating branch of industry in the industrial output is 15%. The main producer and supplier of electric power in the territory of the region is JSC «Kuban Energo». The power generation system comprises power-generating facilities of Krasnodar Power Station and three hydroelectric power stations, high voltage power lines and transformer substations.
Machine building and metal working
The share of this branch in the industrial output is 10.3%. Over 100 enterprises produce the wide range of machine building products: metal working and wood working tools, instruments and automation devices, agricultural machines, electric motors, compressors, pumps, refrigeration equipment, oil field equipment, geological survey equipment. The largest enterprises are: JSC «Saturn», JSC «Compressor Plant», JSC «Novorosmetal», JSC «Novorossisk Ship Repair Plant», JSC «Armavir Electric Technical Plant».
Manufacturing of building materials
The share of this branch in the amount of industrial output is 7.6%. Four enterprises of the branch - JSC «Kubansky Gypsum-Knauf», JSC «Yamburg Gas Invest», JSC «OBD» and «Novoros Cement» - are included into the best enterprises of the construction complex of the country.
Fuel industry
The share of fuel branch in the industrial output is 6.7%. Three oil refineries are operating in the region. The largest enterprises are: JSC Oil Refinery «KrasnodarEcoNeft», and JSC «NK Rosneft» - the Tuapse Oil Refinery.

About 22% of the amount of industrial output in the region belong to the fuel-power complex.
Timber industry, woodworking and pulp and paper industry
The share of the branch in the total output of industrial production is 3.6%. The woodworking industry includes 35 large and medium size enterprises manufacturing saw timber, particleboards, parquet, furniture for offices and houses. Industrial wood production is over 130 thousand cubic m per year. The largest enterprise are: JSC «Goriachy Kliuch Furniture Plant», JSC «Yug», JSC «Garda», JSC «AR Carton», JSC «Ockerlund & Rausig Kuban», JSC «SCA Packaging Kuban», JSC «Tetra Pak Kuban».
Small and Medium Size Business
Krasnodar Region is one of the RF subjects with a developed sphere of business undertakings. Subjects of small business form 20.5% of TRP. The sphere of small business includes 28% of the economically active population of the Region. The number of enterprises of small business is continuously increasing. Since 2001 to 2003 the increase of the small business enterprises has reached 10%. The branch trend of activity of small enterprises is in trade, public catering, industry and construction.
AGRICULTURE
Availability of fertile land allows to produce the whole spectrum of crops of moderate belt and some subtropical crops as well.
Kuban land possesses a considerable potential of agricultural enterprises.
The share of agriculture is 14.9% of TRP and over 6% of the gross output of agriculture of Russia including 10% of grain, 20% of sugar beet, and 17% of sunflower. The total area of arable land in the region is 4.0 mln hectares.
Krasnodar Region secures the food safety of Russia.
Fertile arable land allow to grow the whole range of moderate belt crops and some subtropical crops.
The agro-industrial complex of the Region represented by multi-branch agricultural and processing enterprises with a developed infrastructure is the largest Russian producer and supplier of agricultural commodities and raw materials. This complex essentially determined the economy of the Region, the employment rate of population and the prosperity level. Almost one third of population is employed in agricultural sector of the Region.
The agro-industrial complex of the Region occupies 2.2% of total crop land of Russian Federation and over 3% of arable land. In 2003 the total output of the branch reached 73.4 billion RUR in current prices.
Over 100 different crops are cultivated in the Region. Russian output of grapes, tea and citrus crops are located mainly in Kuban.
In 2003 Kuban farmers produced over 5.2 mln t of grain (the first rate result in the country). The total output of sunflower seed reached 798 thousand t, that of sugar beet - 3.4 mln t, the amount of milk was 473 thousand t and that of meat (including by-products) was 89.2 thousand t.
