The share of the transport branch is 20.4% of the TRP. The amount of services of the branch in 2003 overcame 63 billion RUR. Since 2000-2003 over 335 mln of cargo have been transported and about 3 billion passengers.
The Region possesses three international airports, the largest Russian sea port and one of the largest railway centers in the South of Russia.
The best Russian highways are situated in the territory of the Region.
Highways
The extension of highways is 10.4 thousand km. Highways Krasnodar-Novorossisk, Krimsk-Port Kavkaz are located in the region as well as federal highways Krasnodar-Baku and Don (Moscow-Voronezh-Rostov on Don - Krasnodar - Novorossisk)
Railways
The extension of railways in the region is 2.2 thousand km. The main trunk-railway in the territory of the region belongs to the Krasnodar branch of the North-Kavkaz Railway. Main cargo transportation is oriented to the seaports of the region. Transported cargo include oil, oil products, timber, saw timber, grain, sugar, construction goods and equipment. In order to increase the carrying capacity of cargo transportation and to improve the communication with the coast and remote settlements the further development of the railway system of the region is planed.
Airports
Three airports are functioning in Krasnodar Region possessing an international status. They are in the cities of Krasnodar, Sochi and Anapa. During the last three years the geography of passenger traffic has increased including international lines: flights to such countries as Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, UAR and Turkey.
Sea ports
Eight sea ports are functioning in the Region: in Novorossisk, Tuapse, Sochi, Anapa, Gelendzhik, Yeysk, Temriuk, Port Kavkaz and the river port Krasnodar possess the capacity of 90 mln t per year. They cover up to 40% of the cargo turnover of all ports of Russian Federation. The largest shipping companies are JSC «Novorossisk Sipping Company» and JSC «Novoship».
Oil and gas pipelines
Pipelines of the largest oil pipelines have been constructed in the territory of Krasnodar Region. The companies are: JS «Black Sea Main Oil Pipelines», and JSC «Caspian Pipeline Consortium-P» (KTK-P). The start-up of the KTK system became an important event not only for the region but for the Russia in general. This system is intended to pump over 28 mln t of oil and in the future it is planned to increase the output to 67 mln t.
Main gas pipelines of JSC «Kubangasprom» are also situated in the territory of Krasnodar Region. In December 2003 the second stage of gas pipeline Russia-Turkey «Blue Stream» has been put into operation. The total extension of the gas pipeline is 1213 km, 317 km of it will go in the territory of Krasnodar Region. By 2008 the gas pipeline will operated in full design capacity, the amount of gas supplies will reach 16 billion cubic m of gas annually. New projects are under consideration.
Communication
Communication is the most prospective and dynamically developing infrastructure branch of the region. It possesses the potential of the long-term economic growth. All kinds of communication are actively developing in the region. The amount of services in 2003 exceeded 12.5 billion RUR exceeding the 2002 level by 1.4 times. In general for the period of 2000-2003 the increase of the amount of services has increased by 2 times. The number of subscribers of the fixed communication exceeds 1 million. The higher rates of development are observed in the sector of cellular communication. At present the region occupies the 3rd place in Russia by the number of subscribers of cellular communication. Regional and municipal programs of communication development in rural district are being implemented: during the three-year preceding period 93 rural settlements were supplied with telephone communication. The largest operator not only in the region but also in the Northern Caucasus is JSC «Yuzhnaya Telecommunication Company».
Such leaders of cellular communication as MTS, Sotel, Bee Line and Kubtelekom (the 4th operator of Russia in GSM) also operate in the Region.
