Krasnodar Region is situated in the zone of unique climatic conditions
Krasnodar Region is the most Southern boundary region of Russia. Territory of the region is 76 thousand square km. The Region is situated in Kuban-Azov lowland and partially in the Western part of the system of the Greater Caucasus. In the North and Northwest the region borders with Stavropol region, in the South with Georgia and Karachayevo-Cherkessia Republic. In the South and West the region is washed with water of Azov and Black Seas. From total extension of 1450 km of frontier 740 km are passing over the seacoast.

Krasnodar Region is situated in the latitude of Northern Italy and Southern France.
Krasnodar Region includes 48 municipal entities including 26 townships, 21 settlements of urban type and 1717 rural settlements.

Krasnodar City is the administrative center of the Region celebrating in 2003 the 210th Anniversary of foundation. At present this is a large size administrative, financial, industrial, scientific-educational and cultural center decorated with All-Russia premium "Russian National Olympus" in nomination "City-2002 of Russia" and the Order "For Honor and Valor" as the dynamically developing city of Russia.

Krasnodar Region possesses equal rights with Administrative Entities of Russian Federation and its territory is included into the South Federative District.

The Head of executive power (within the authority rendered by Russian Constitution to the Administrative Entity of Russian Federation) is the Head of Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region elected by universal suffrage for the term of 5 years. On March 14, 2004 Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachev has been elected Head of Administration of Krasnodar Region for the second term.

The representative body of power is the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Region elected by universal suffrage for the term of 5 years. It adopts (within the authority of the Administrative Entity of Russian Federation) Laws of Krasnodar Region mandatory for execution in the territory of region.

Climate in the greater part of Krasnodar Region is moderate-continental, and sub-tropical in the Black Sea coast. Mean long-term air temperature in January is from 5C in the mountains to 0C in the lowlands; in July it is from +13C to +24C respectively. Mean annual precipitation is from 400 mm in lowlands to 3200 mm and over in the mountains. Mean duration of vegetation period is about 260 days. Chernozem soils are prevailing in the lowlands.

Curative climate of Mediterranean type, warm seas, unique natural mineral springs and curative mud have won glory to Kuban as one of the most ecologically pure and popular resort-tourist regions of the country.
