The International Economic Forum Kuban is to open in Sochi for the fifth time on September 28, 2006. The Forum, initiated by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of RF, currently has the status of annual, All-Russian and international event. The Kuban Forum is conducted by Krasnodar regional administration with the support of the President of Russia jointly with the government of the country, the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia.

The number of the forum participants grows from year to year. If some 500 people visited the 1st International Economic Forum Kuban-2002, in 2005 the number of guests and participants of the Forum increased more than 5 times and totaled some 2,700 people.

The geography of countries – the participants of the event, has also widened: in 2002 businessmen from 7 countries arrived to us, in 2003 we played as host for guests from 14 countries, in 2004 guests from 18 states were present at the Kuban Forum, and in 2005 total number of countries – the forum participants exceeded 60.

Our Forum is the place for meeting and open dialogue for well-known politicians, chiefs of legislative and executive bodies of power, manufacturers and entrepreneurs, scientists and public figures, principals of banks, international investment, consulting and insurance companies. Heads and representatives of diplomatic and trade missions, accredited in Russia, representing countries of Europe, Middle East, Asia and America, as well as delegations of businessmen and public officials from CIS states take part in the Forum work.

Over the time of its existence Kuban Forum has become a congress of domestic and foreign businessmen, having united the efforts of enterprises from various regions and countries for development of Russian economy. Kuban economic forum gave a start to many interesting investment projects. For example, last year 80 investment agreements for total amount of EURO 1.3 million were signed at Kuban-2005 forum last year. Totally some170 investment agreements of total worth some EURO 2.5 billion were signed over 4 years at the forum.

Our projects are finished, carefully “packed” investment products. All the required documents are processed and coordinated in each of them. Acquiring such finished product, and signing an agreement at the forum an investor will be able to begin the construction as early as in two or three weeks.

The economy of Kuban is rather diversified. And we try to stream the flow of investments, primarily to development of transport, resorts, processing industry and agricultural machine building. Krasnodar region is developing today in such a way as all Russian economy must develop – not at the expense of the sale of raw materials, its natural resources, but owing to the development of all spheres of production. Our region possesses huge investment potential: we have to develop thousand kilometers of sunny coast, to modernize the ports’ and railway junctions’ capacities, to renovate the equipment of industrial enterprises, to introduce new technologies in agriculture and to do many other things.

Investments are not just money, invested in this or that project. This means new players at the market, toughening of the competition, and that means – progress. In our opinion, liberalization of economy is the best method to develop it.

Both Russian President Vladimir Putin and our Governor Alexander Tkachev are sure that investments are the main way of Russian economy development. That is why all our work is aimed at interaction of power and business in attracting investments.

Based on experts’ estimations, in the next five years the economy of the region is ready to accept investments for amount of USD 43 billion. In order to draw these funds, we conduct the economic forum in Sochi.

The issues of strategic development of Russian economy, the ways of favorable investment climate formation, and power and business interaction are to be discussed at forum Kuban-2006. Investment and innovations, development of industry, transportation and tourism complexes of Russia and Kuban are to become the main topics.

For all participants of the forum we are planning to show Krasnodar region close-up – each of 48 of our regions is to hold a presentation of its territory so that the investor could have a clear idea, where he has to work.

And, of course, we grant a great number of opportunities for informal communication – a cultural program of the forum is rather intensive.

Sochi resort city – a pearl of the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar region, has been selected the place for International Economic Forum Kuban not accidentally. This city attracts not only fans of summer rest, but also sportsmen of winter sports. That is why the Government of Russia made a decision about the city participation in the fight for the right to be the capital of Winter Olympic Games-2014.
